Online Store 2.0 Versions

Retina versions released after and including 6.0.0 (Oct. 1, 2021) are compatible with Online Store 2.0.

Using the Theme Updater App

When updating to OS 2.0 compatible versions, the home page content will need to be rebuilt. Global theme settings will be preserved in the update, but content built in the theme editor, including home page sections, will need to be reconfigured using the new OS 2.0 editor. This is a one-time process that is required to update into the new editor.

Vintage Theme Versions

Retina theme versions released before 6.0.0 are 'vintage' themes. Vintage theme versions have limited compatibility with the latest Shopify features. Update to the latest version to make use of Online Store 2.0 features.

Retina 5.0.2 - July 12th, 2021

  • Product cards have a new setting to adjust the swatch size.

  • Both Product cards and Product pages now have the ability to upload swatch pattern images and use them for their product variants.
  • Fixed issue with slideshow embed code from the Content Creator extension not loading in as a slider.
  • Removed duplicate H1 level headings.
  • YouTube videos will now play within the Product gallery on mobile instead of their own player.
  • Product page URL will now update based on the selected variant.
  • When using variant images for swatches, PNG variant images now have a transparent background.
  • On the product page, the selected state of swatches has been improved to indicate which variant is selected.

  • Better performance for when clicking images to zoom in the Product gallery.
  • Content within the Product recommendations slider is now centered.
  • Colour contrast improvements to the Password page make the social media icons more visible.
  • Image with Text Overlay section's overlay can now be fully transparent.
  • Better loading for the local pickup component when switching variants.
  • On the product page the Coming Soon badge now lines up with the Size Guide link.
  • Contact page layout has been improved so that the title and page text match the width of the form fields.
  • Layout on the blogs page has been improved when heading alignment is set to "Left" in the Typography theme settings.
  • On the collection list page, the "Default collections to show" setting has been updated to "All".
  • The dynamic checkout button now works with products with variants and when "Auto-select variant" has been turned off.
  • Products with no variants can now show the SKU or Inventory Remaining when they have been enabled and "Auto-select variant" has been turned off.
  • Tablet users can now access the header dropdown menus without being redirected to the parent items link.
  • Homepage gallery section now has margins around the heading when wide display is enabled.

  • Now that Shopify has added support for both Youtube and Vimeo videos to the product gallery, our old workaround for adding videos to the featured image column will no longer work.

Retina 4.7.4 - October 5th, 2020

  • NEW: Predictive search capabilities. Support for Shopify's predictive search API has been added to the theme. Allows search inquires to auto-complete as customers types them in your shop's search fields. Learn more
  • Support for Shopify's built-in "Social sharing image" setting (located in Online Store > Preferences). You can now add a default image to be used for social sharing when another relevant image can't be found. Learn more

  • The theme's CSS grid has been converted to a percentage-based grid, for enhanced responsive behaviour.
  • The theme's "Social sharing image" setting (previously found in Theme Settings > Social Media) has been removed in order to support Shopify's built-in option.
  • The data-default-lang="{{ defaultLocale }}" data attribute has been removed from the theme.liquid file.

Retina 4.7.1 - April 15th, 2020

  • NEW! Support for Shopify's native currency selector. This new feature will change the price displayed to customers based on their selection and includes support for native multi-currencies. Learn how to set up the currency selector here.

  • Prices for sold out products are now included on products pages beside the 'Sold out' text.

Retina 4.7.0 - February 13th, 2020

  • The 'Show secondary product media' setting (located in Theme Settings > Product Grid) that lets you enable an image swap on hover for product thumbnails has been updated to support video playback on thumbnail hover as well. 
  • The ability to enable a thumbnail slider for your product page galleries! Located in your product page settings in the Theme Editor, you can now neatly tuck thumbnail images into a slider below the main product image. Learn more
  • dateModified field has been included for Blog posts to prevent Structured Data errors.

IMPROVED

  • Banner images now load in smoother due to the implementation of the Flickity library. 
  • The 'Orders will be processed in CAD' message will now be disabled on the cart page when Shopify's Multi-Currency is enabled.
  • More improvements made to Structured Data to resolve warnings. The latest changes allow you to eliminate the following warnings:
    • The sku field is recommended. Please provide a value if available.
    • This Product is missing a global identifier (e.g. isbn, mpn or gtin8). Please see documentation for valid identifiers.
    These warnings will only be eliminated if you have entered a SKU or GTIN for your product/variant.

Retina 4.6.6 - February 12th, 2020

Retina 4.6.5 - December 19th, 2019

ADDED

  • Integrated InstantPage library for enhanced theme speed! The InstantPage library uses 'page pre-loading', which starts to load the HTML for a page before a user clicks on it. InstantPage ensures that pages are preloaded only when there’s a good chance that a user will visit them. 
  • Support for FAQPage Schema has been included for the page.faq template.
  • NEW! 'Description position' setting for the Featured Product section (located in Sections > Featured Product) lets you choose whether to display the description above or below the product form (add to cart button).  
  • First and last name fields have been included in the Newsletter content block option for the Footer. 
  • ALT tags have been added to Product page thumbnail images to improve accessibility and SEO. 
  • Implemented JSON-LD which improves Structured Data to resolve errors and warnings.

  • Flexslider library (used for slideshows and product galleries) has been updated to version 2.7.2. 
  • All URLs now include Shopify's new Liquid property to generate dynamic URLs.
  • Updated functionality to include Shopify’s linkOptionSelectors function.
  • The deprecated .length liquid filter has been removed from the Featured Collection section code and replaced with the .size filter.
  • 'Description' field in the Language files for the Back in Stock form (located in Actions > Edit code > Languages > Products > Notify form) has been removed as it's no longer required. To edit the text that appears for the Back in Stock form, navigate to Theme Settings > Product Grid > "Back in stock request" form text. 

IMPROVED

  • Featured promotions no longer link to the homepage when no link has been added. 
  • Size Guide links on the product page are no longer duplicated.
  • 'Unknown Type' no longer displays when adding a 'type list' block to the Collection page sidebar.
  • The correct price now shows for the 'Compare at' price on sale items.
  • Dynamic Checkout Buttons on the cart page now properly align.
  • Product prices are no longer missing from the Cart Page on mobile devices
  • When Currency Converter is disabled, prices on the Collection page no longer appear as NaN. 
  • Hover effect on the Image with Text section now works when the text block is positioned to the left.
  • The 'availability' field is now accurate for Sold Out variants when run through a Structured Data Testing tool. 
  • The 'Directions' button in the Map section no longer opens in a new tab. 

Retina 4.6.4 - October 2nd, 2019
