Using the Video Section
All Out of the Sandbox themes feature a stunning homepage video section that can be displayed on your storefront and supports Youtube, Vimeo or HTML5 videos. You can view a live example of the video section by visiting our Vienna demo shop for the Parallax theme.
The video section includes settings to enable wide display, add a placeholder image, autoplay (when possible), text, text alignment and position.
In order to add this section to your homepage, head into Online Store > Themes > Customize > Sections > Add section > Video.
Autoplay limitations
There have been recent compatibility changes in how browsers render autoplay videos. Nearly all of the major browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari — have at least some limitations on video, particularly video with audio, that prevents it from autoplaying and the restrictions tend to become even more strict on tablets and smartphones.
Due to this being related to changing standards for how browsers render video we aren't able to guarantee videos will play. However, we have two great articles that will explain the issue in greater detail and provides some tips to help increase the likelihood your videos will play.
We have more information on video limitations here.
On mobile regardless of whether the video is set to autoplay, if you've added a placeholder image, it will be displayed by default.
HTML5 Videos
The HTML5 video option will require you to upload a video file. To do so, you'll need to head into Settings > Files from your Shopify Admin to upload your MP4 file and optional OGV file. It's recommended to upload both files for maximum compatibility, but only the MP4 file needs to be specified.
