Remaining themes
Mobilia and Artisan are not fully compatible with Online Store 2.0. Fortunately, this only means that the expanded features announced for the platform upgrade are not accessible until a compatible theme is set up in your store. All pre-2.0 theme features should be unaffected by the transition, but new 2.0 features will not function.
Can I Use the Theme Updater App to Update to an Online Store 2.0 Theme Version?
The Theme Updater App is only able to preserve global theme settings (e.g. Colors, Typography). Content such as home page sections will need to be rebuilt. This is a one-time process that is required to align with new templating standards and maintain theme performance.
Will I Have to Make Theme File Modifications Again for 2.0 themes?
Custom modifications made to the theme files would need to be adapted to the new theme version. This is the case when updating themes in general, but even more challenging with the new theme file structure required by Online Store 2.0.
The Online Store 2.0 enhancements include a variety of customization options, so it's possible that code-based modifications could be achieved with potentially baked-in features.
