Subcollections allow you to display related collections within a parent collection page. This helps organize large collections into clearer categories and makes it easier for customers to browse.
The Subcollections block can be found in the Product grid section of the Collection template.
Subcollections appear automatically when the navigation link for the collection you’re viewing includes second-level links in the header menu. This can be configured in your Shopify admin by going to Content > Menus.
In the example below, browsing to the Wine collection shows subcollection links to Red, White, Orange, and Sparking.
Troubleshooting
To make sure subcollections appear as expected in your store, keep the following in mind:
Menu Structure
Use Shopify’s default Main menu as your header navigation. You can confirm this by checking the menu handle. If it is set to main-menu and cannot be changed, you are using the default main menu.
Duplicate Collection links
Each collection URL should appear only once in your navigation. Using the same collection link multiple times can affect how subcollections display.
Filters in Collection links
Subcollections only appear when the menu links use standard, unfiltered collection URLs. If a collection link includes filters or tags, subcollections may not show.
