If you have products that are not meant (or ready) to be shipped or sold, consider using these approaches to replace price, add-to-cart, and other details automatically.
Sometimes you may want to take orders for a product that isn't ready to ship yet, or if you have a product on back-order. From your Shopify Admin > Products > Collections, you can create a new collection called Pre-Order.
Any products added to this collection will display a Pre-Order banner on the collection page.
The standard add-to-cart button will also be changed to a Pre-Order button. You may also want to authorize payment for pre-order products by updating your payment gateway settings.
Ensure that the handle says pre-order. You can double-check this in the Collection admin page by scrolling down and clicking on Edit website SEO and double-checking the URL and handle.
Coming Soon Products
You may want to upload a product that is not for sale, isn't available to be ordered from your shop, or simply not in stock yet but you want to get your customers excited about it. From your Shopify Admin > Products > Collections, you can create a new collection called Coming Soon.
In Parallax, Responsive, Retina, Mobilia, and Flex themes, any products added to this collection will display a "Coming Soon" banner on the collection page.
With the Turbo and Artisan themes, and products added to this collection will display "Coming Soon" text instead of the product price on the collection page.
Coming Soon products will not display a price or add-to-cart button
The text for both Pre-Order and Coming soon can be edited from the Languages section. You can change the text, but the titles of the collections will still need to be Pre-Order and Coming Soon to enable this feature.
Ensure that the handle says coming-soon. You can double-check this in the Collection editor page by scrolling down and clicking on Edit website SEO and double-checking URL and handle.
