The release of Turbo 5.0 now includes a new and improved way of using Turbo's demo shop theme styles (aka presets). The theme styles for Turbo can be seen in its demo shops: Portland, Seoul, Florence, Dubai, Chicago, and Tennessee.
What are theme styles?
Theme styles show the range of the theme and allow you to find the best look for your site. If you like a feature in one theme style but the look of another, don’t worry! All presets have access to the same features, you may just need to select them under your theme settings.
When you purchase a theme, you have access to all of its theme styles. So if you initially purchase Turbo Portland, don't fret! You will have access to the other theme styles as well.
As of the Turbo 5.0 release and up, we've taken the theme style concept a step further.
Going forward, there will be no more built-in presets in Turbo (this means no "change theme style" button with the theme editor). You will now be able to upload the zip of your choice to choose or change styles.
By separating the styles into their own zip files, when you upload the zip of your choice, all of the theme settings, fonts, layout, content, and sections used in the demo shop of your choosing will get applied to your theme.

Uploading a theme style
When you purchase Turbo, the theme downloads as a zip file called unzip-me.zip. Once the file is unzipped, a folder called Welcome to Turbo gets created.
There will be a main turbo.zip file, as well as zip files named after the current 6 demo shops (ex: turbo-portland.zip):
So if you want to choose the Seoul theme style, upload the turbo-seoul.zip file, for the Tennessee theme style, upload the turbo-tennessee.zip file, etc.
For the turbo-chicago zip, it will automatically load the 'Day' style and layout. If you want to switch to 'Night', in your theme editor, simply go to 'Theme Settings' and scroll down to the 'Change theme style' button.
If you're looking to start with a clean slate (where layout, theme settings, and content will not be based on any of the demo shops) then you can choose the default turbo.zip file.
Please note that this will install a brand new theme to your Theme Library panel in the Shopify Admin.
Changing Theme Styles
Since the concept of "theme styles" in the Turbo theme has been updated, there is no "change theme style" button with the theme editor.
Instead, if you're looking to change your theme to use a different demo shop theme style, you will need to upload a different demo shop zip file from the Welcome to Turbo folder.
Please note - this will install a brand new theme to your Theme Library panel in the Shopify Admin.
FAQs
How can I use a new theme style?
From time to time, Out of the Sandbox adds new theme styles to its themes. These typically have city names (such as "Florence", "Chicago" or "Seoul"). If you would like to use one of the new theme styles when it is released, this is NOT supported via the theme updater app. After updating the theme via the app, the new style name will NOT appear in the style list. In order to add the style, you will need to download a fresh copy of your theme and install from scratch. If, however, you do not need the new theme style but just want to take advantage of other new features and code updates, you CAN use the theme updater app.
I already have the Turbo theme, how can I use this new zip file method?
If you already own Turbo and want to use the new zip file method, you will need to download a fresh copy of your theme and install it from scratch. You can download the theme again through your purchase confirmation email you received when you placed the order, or you can request an updated theme file from our Merchant Success Team.
Why did OOTS make these changes to Turbo's theme styles?
A common question we hear from our merchants, and Shopify merchants in general, is "Why when I install my theme, does it not look the way it does in the demo shop?"
The default method of having built-in theme styles, unfortunately, presents limitations as it does not allow for the exact layout and content used in the demo shop style to apply directly to your own shop.
With this new method, you can finally have the exact homepage configuration and layout (all the theme settings, sections, and content) that you saw in the demo shop, apply to your own shop when you upload your theme.
Are there benefits to splitting Turbo's theme styles into separate zip files?
Yes!
1. Separating the Turbo theme styles into their own zip files actually reduces the overall file size of the theme. Since the theme styles are no longer "built-into" the main theme file, the theme no longer has to have them all "load in" at the same time. Now, only the theme style that you've chosen to upload gets loaded in.
2. The separate zip files allow you to be able to have the exact homepage configuration and layout seen in the demo shop apply to your own shop when you upload your theme.
