To find the YouTube video ID, click on the Share link below the video when viewing the YouTube video page. The last part of the video URL contains the ID, which is highlighted below:
To find the Vimeo video ID, you can click on the Share icon when viewing the video. This will display a popup, where you will find the ID in the video URL highlighted below:
The HTML5 video option will require you to upload a video file. If you have enough file space in your Shopify account, then you can go to the Settings > Files section to upload your MP4 file and optional OGV file. It's recommended to upload both files for maximum compatibility, but only the MP4 file needs to be specified. You can also host these files on a third-party server other than Shopify. You can then copy/paste the file URLs into the Theme Settings.
Click To Play / Mobile Browser Limitation
There is an inherent limitation on mobile browsers that prevents videos from auto-playing. The purpose of this restriction is to conserve bandwidth and battery life for mobile devices. Regardless of whether the video is set to autoplay, the featured banner image will be displayed by default. For YouTube and Vimeo videos, you can then click the banner image to play the video. There is an example of this setup in our Vienna Demo Shop →
If you wish to enable "click to play", please head into your theme options under the home page - banner images tab, here, you can disable the "autoplay" feature. Please ensure this feature is disabled to enable your click to play functionality. When "click to play" is enabled, your desktop video will display the banner image, upon clicking this banner your video will begin to play.
