Note: For most Shopify users, the checkout page template cannot be accessed from the template editor and are generated by Shopify. You will need to use "Edit Languages" to customize the checkout text, while you can use the theme settings to revise the colors and logo. Shopify Plus merchants do have access to the checkout.liquid file.
Merchants using Basic Shopify, Shopify or Advanced Shopify have very limited control over how the checkout looks. This limitation also extends to the popup windows shown when a shopper uses a dynamic checkout button. In general, you can only change the colors, fonts and select text and images on checkout pages using the steps outlined below and in this blog article.
Making advanced changes to the layout of any checkout page is not possible (this includes any of the pages shown after the user clicks "checkout" or a theme or permalink automatically starts the checkout process).
Please note this is a limitation of the Basic Shopify, Shopify or Advanced Shopify plans and not your Shopify theme.
Basic Shopify, Shopify or Advanced Shopify plans also do not include the ability to add a one page or single page checkout experience. Shopify Plus customers can implement this, but it is considered an advanced customization that will likely require hiring a developer.

Where can I find the checkout theme settings?
The theme settings for the Checkout are located in Online Store > Themes > Customize > Theme Settings > Checkout.
How do I edit the checkout language?
If you want to change the names of the fields that come up in the checkout, for example “Apt, Suite, etc.”, or even what the area is called, for example, “Shipping Address”, you can do so in the Translation.
You can access the translation by going to “Online Store > Themes” then click on the "Actions" button, this will bring up a drop down menu, select “Edit languages” from this list.
From here, you’ll click on the “Checkout & System” tab. Depending on your screen resolution, you may have all the tabs showing, or some options may be hidden under the down arrow button. Click on the down arrow to reveal the rest of the options.
Scroll down until you find the option you want to change. For example, to change the “Apt, Suite, etc.” field, scroll down to Address 2 field. In the text boxes, you’ll add whichever you’d like to replace the text with.
In this example “Apt, Suite, etc.” have been replaced with “Address 2” and that'll change it in the checkout! Currently, you only need to change the "label" fields as the "placeholder" fields aren't used.
